Maternal vaccination: shaping the neonatal response to pertussis

نویسندگان

چکیده

Antepartum maternal vaccination can protect highly sensitive newborns before they are old enough to receive their own vaccines. Two vaccines currently recommended during pregnancy: the flu vaccine and Tdap against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis. Although there is strong evidence that works offspring, limitations in understanding of transfer immunity compound obscure our how work. Here we focus on example pertussis explore possible mechanisms involved protection offspring these may impact newborn’s response future exposure For example, induce pathogen specific antibodies, those antibodies known be transferred from mother fetus utero newborn via milk. But alone have modest disease, even less effect colonization/transmission. Maternal immune cells also play a direct role disease and/or influence developing neonatal system. However, some blunt offspring’s subsequent vaccination. In this review will summarize conferred by likely which transferred, identifying many knowledge gaps limit most effective application approach.

Maternal pertussis vaccination is associated with higher levels of pertussis

32 Maternal pertussis vaccination is associated with higher levels of pertussis 33 antibodies at birth. We assessed the persistence of pertussis antibodies until 34 primary vaccination in infants whose mothers received Tdap (tetanus, 35 diphtheria, acellular pertussis) vaccine during pregnancy. Infants were born at 36 the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona (Spain) in November 2014. Anti-PT IgG was 37...

The Impact of Early Postpartum Maternal Pertussis Vaccination on the Protection of Infants: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background: Despite primary vaccination, infants under six months run a risk of infection with pertussis. Objective: To determine the impact of early postpartum maternal pertussis vaccination on protecting infants from the disease. Methods: All mothers (n=405) who gave birth to healthy term infants were educated on the cocoon strategy. The moth...

Maternal undernutrition and the ovine acute phase response to vaccination

BACKGROUND The acute phase response is the immediate host response to infection, inflammation and trauma and can be monitored by measuring the acute phase proteins (APP) such as haptoglobin (Hp) or serum amyloid A (SAA). The plane of nutrition during pregnancy is known to affect many mechanisms including the neuroendocrine and neuroimmune systems in neonatal animals but effects on the APP are u...

Regulation of pertussis toxin and lipopolysaccharide levels of Bordetella pertussis 134 in response to modulators

Whooping cough (pertussis) is a highly contagious disease of the human respiratory tract, which is caused by Bordetella pertussis. Reemerge of pertussis in some highly immunized populations and divergency in gene order among several B. pertussis strains promoted this research to study the change of pertussis toxin (PT) and lipopolysacharide levels in response to the different environments. Th...
